The Importance of Giving Back

Let's talk about community service!

The holiday season may be over, but that doesn't mean that we should stop doing good deeds for other people. Donating your time or money (or both) to a worthy cause is a considerable idea for several reasons.

Helping others strengthens the community

Lots of cracks in social services are filled when you perform charity work. Those who wouldn't otherwise have shelter, food, or decent clothing can have it all when volunteers get involved. Not all community service revolves around helping the less-fortunate. For example, actions like working in schools can help kids boost their test scores, and cleaning up streets can make cities more beautiful. All of these things can contribute to safer towns and cities.

Service is a great resume booster...

...especially if you have limited work experience. Employers and program recruiters like to see potential staff members have extra experiences; they show off leadership skills and help them get to know you as a person.

It makes everyone feel good

When you make other people happy, it makes you happy too! Just knowing that your work has a positive influence on the world makes life that much better.

I've even provided links to get you started!

There are endless reasons to get involved, so it should be a no-brainer to perform community service on a regular basis. Now, go out there and do something!
