Spotlight: Amadi

Actor. Model. Blogger. Amadi does it all.
I got the chance to speak with Amadi, one of my favorite up-and-coming entertainers, on everything from his future projects to creative inspiration.

Arielle: I've been following you since I was in high school, back when you branded yourself as Paris MaTay. What drove the switch?

Amadi: At first I was trying new things and you know how us kids are; we can't make up our minds about stuff. So I just kept going until one day I told myself "I'm just going to be me." And it was the best choice.

Arielle: Anyone who follows your SoundCloud page knows that they can expect music covers from you. Your cover to Rihanna's BBHMM was one of your most successful ones to date. Will you be posting more this year?

Amadi: Yes, there will definitely be more to come in 2016! I'm focusing more on EDM and rap this time around.

Arielle: What can we expect from your new web series, The Amadi Project?

Amadi: My character Amadi is this ultra silly person whose trying to balance school and life at the same time. He encounters lots of obstacles throughout his life like awkward friendships, and dates. At the same time he is attempting to be this independent young adult but his mom isn't letting him.

Arielle: What is it about acting that makes you want to pursue it as a career?

Amadi: The art. I love the freedom in being who I am, tapping into other people's lives to tell a story, and hopefully influence someone.

Arielle: Amadi Ugonna started out as a men's fashion blog and has blossomed into a lifestyle website. First, where do you draw your fashion inspiration from? And second, how has the transition from a blog to a full website been for you?

Amadi: I'm influenced by the world, to be honest. I enjoy different social backgrounds, ethnic groups, and cultures. I feel like to limit myself in fashion would be boring since I live a colorful existence.

As far as the blog goes, it gave me a great foundation and taught me a lot about technology. Having a website though? I thought I knew a little something, but this right here is on a whole new and exciting level! I'm having fun.

Arielle: Last question, how did you feel when Tyra Banks retweeted you?

Amadi: The fact that my freaking idol acknowledged me is crazy! I would love to work with her one day.
