How to Move On After You Screw Everything Up
Maybe you “borrowed” your friend’s clothes too often. Maybe you cheated on your girl a little bit. Maybe you misspoke at the wrong time, created an unnecessary rift, or talked big without being able to back it up.
Closure Isn't Overrated, Your Endgame Is
What is closure?
I'm gonna tell you what it is and what it isn't. Closure is the Great Value version of the word catharsis, the process of releasing, and thereby providing relief from, strong or repressed emotions. Closure is not something that you can force someone to give you, and it is not a means for reconciliation. Closure is simply an ending to a hard time.

Most people spend a large chunk of their time trying to please others, but it's usually spent in vain. You see, there's literally nothing you can do that won't be criticized.
Forgiveness Is Actually Overrated
At least, forgiveness for its own sake is. There's this idea that the only way to move on from something is to forgive whoever did you wrong, and that forgiveness isn't for them, but for you. Every time I hear that, I just:

Why They *Really* Care About Body Count

"I'm sorry...how many people did you say you slept with again?" |
Ah, the body count debate.
It's the stuff of legend, bringing forth declarations that can really make you look at a person sideways, depending on your personal views.
"I can't be with anyone if they have (x number) of bodies, that's thot behavior."
"One person or one hundred people, as long as they're committed to me, I don't care."
"More bodies than me? That's too many. What if they caught an STD?"

I HATE Vloggers
I hate vloggers, and I want the world to know it! Note: If the shoe doesn't fit you, then don't try to lace it up and wear it!

Alpha Tau chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. - Spring 2011 |
In college, there's almost no other time more exciting than probate season. That girl in your math class or that guy you always see in the gym is preparing to announce to the world that they've joined a sorority or fraternity; and for those new members, it's a big deal. For those who plan to attend a probate in the near future, here are some tips to make it as enjoyable and fun for everyone as possible.
"Burning Sands" is Tainting Black Culture
Have y'all ever seen a black collegiate movie that didn't center around Greek life/initiations/hazing? Because of these films, GDIs, young children, older adults, etc. draw conclusions about BGLOs (Black Greek Letter Organizations) that are so far left from what actual members say they experience.
So I've Been Going to Therapy, Right...
Last semester was really tough for me, academically and personally. I knew that I could count on my friends for emotional support, but there's just something about seeing a professional that makes a big difference. A friend of mine recommended that I try therapy, so a few weeks ago, I took a chance and made an appointment.
Wait, why are you telling us this?
Because I think it's important. Even though it may seem like it, I'm not always okay and I'm finally at a point where I'm not afraid to say that I need help. If anyone isn't feeling too good mentally or emotionally, it's helpful to see someone who's going through the process (das me) as a reference.
Okay...well, what's it like?
My counselor is an incredibly wonderful woman who works for my university and is an HBCU grad (ayeee). We talk about my goals for the future, time management, my issues with anxiety, and passive-aggressive behavior. Once a week for 45 minutes, no judgement, no harassment, we just sit and chill.
What I want to gain from therapy
To be honest with myself in a judge-free zone is what makes therapy worth it. I don't just want to feel better in the moment, I want to acquire the tools necessary to express my emotions and voice my concerns. If you're in need of some serious help, or just want to make sure that you stay on the right track, I highly suggest seeing a professional. If you're in college like me, then you can probably receive this service for free. Confronting my demons isn't easy, and actually making a change is even harder, but I value myself enough to put in the work to make it happen. Hopefully, you do too.
Why You Gotta Fight With Me at Cheesecake?
Why you gotta fight with me, ever?
I hate conflict. Hate it! I'm definitely one to seek peace, but sometimes it's just unavoidable. Once in a blue moon, I'll make someone upset and vice versa; that's just life. What really gets me is when a simple argument becomes something wayyy more toxic.
